June 1, 2004    0428 UT  :  Rare Solar Observation

An episode of  Type III solar bursting was received on June 1, 2004 at 0428 UT which is 10:28 pm MDT in New Mexico, USA when the Sun was two hours and fifteen minutes  below  the local horizon. This is a rare reception phenomenon though it has been reported previously in history by at least three other experienced observers.  Normally solar burst reception cuts off when the Sun is below the local horizon.  I am presently seeking other observations for this time period at any frequencies. ( My email address is at bottom of this page.)  I hope to put a report together of the solar/ionospheric/magnetic conditions at the time to better understand why this reception occurred.

Sunset on this day occurred at 8:16 pm MDT which is 0216 UT (Universal Time)
in New Mexico at 35.29 N latitude and 105.57 W longitude.

Below are charts of the event recorded at 18.7 MHz.

0428 UT is 10:28 pm MDT

Below is a confirmation chart of the event sent to me from Dave Broderick recorded by 20.1 MHz interferometers in Australia.

For more info on this method of interferometry check out      http://intro.fringes.org/

Below is Culgoora Australia's solar spectrograph for this burst.

If anyone else has a record for this time.....I would appreciate seeing a
chart for further elucidation.

Thank you!

Any comments welcome.
