April 2, 2001 The SID of One of the Three Largest Solar Flares in Recorded History
The
flare began to appear on my charts at 2134 UT as a Sudden
Ionospheric Disturbance. Of particular note is the slight
chart line dip preceding the initial shock front in the 50 MHz chart
above.
On the 20.2 MHz chart below there is a steep dropout of the chart line
indicating an X-ray flare in process. The charts say an X17 + Superflare
but it was upgraded to X22.
